THE DAYTRIPPER STORY

DayTripper Tours was founded in 1987 by then-tour-bus-driver Myron Stam under the name Hollywood Connection. It began as a one-person, home-based startup operation offering occasional one-day excursions to The Price is Right and other Hollywood TV game show tapings.

In 1989 the company name was changed to DayTripper Tours and its operations expanded to include a myriad of other destinations throughout the Southwest and Mexico in response to increased demand for a variety of excursions. In 1994, the company opened a small office and hired its first employee. It subsequently relocated again in 1996, 1999, and 2004 into larger office spaces to accommodate the demand for more employees.

In 2012, DayTripper Tours was incorporated under the parent name Daycation Getaways, Inc., and that same year moved its headquarters to 624 El Cajon Blvd., El Cajon, CA. The half-acre property provided both short- and long-term passenger parking as well as a 5,600 square-foot building that included a passenger waiting lounge area and a small café for refreshments.

DAYTRIPPER TOURS 2020

On March 19, 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country and all leisure travel companies, including DayTripper Tours, were ordered to cease operations and close their doors. Over the next 15 months the company relocated to a small office, and a handful of determined DayTripper employees went to work creating live tours and experiences online, keeping customers and team members engaged throughout the ordeal.

DAYTRIPPER ONLINE EXPERIENCES 2020-2021

In June of 2021, DayTripper Tours reemerged from the pandemic much smaller but with a new online presence that for the first time allowed travelers to book and confirm their tour reservations online.

The company currently employs 12 part-time Tour Managers and 5 full and part-time office staff members including Stam, who continues to serve as president working alongside Chrissy Allen, the office and reservations manager; Trish Murillo in customer service and reservations; Mandy Matti, the marketing coordinator; and Breeanna Allen, tour development and operations supervisor.

Despite the ups and downs over the past decades, DayTripper Tours continues to hold the distinction as the only tour operator of its kind in San Diego County, offering dozens of day trips and multi-day vacations outbound from San Diego to destinations throughout California, Mexico, the Southwest, and beyond each year.
