Book NowThe Great Elephant Migration is an inspiring journey of 100 Indian elephants, traveling across the U.S. to share their story and raise awareness. This global adventure brings together indigenous artisans, contemporary artists, and cultural institutions to support coexistence between humans and wildlife. It aims to raise millions for projects that protect migratory animals and their habitats across land, water, and skies.
Each elephant is crafted from Lantana camara, a fast-growing, toxic plant that has invaded 40% of India's forests, pushing animals into urban areas. By removing lantana and converting it into biochar, the project restores forests, improves soil, and helps fight climate change. Biochar locks carbon in the ground, addressing a key environmental challenge. By the end of 2025, the initiative will restore forests and sequester 2,625 tons of carbon.
The elephants are created by artisans in the Nilgiri Hills of Southern India, where humans and elephants live in close harmony. Indigenous communities there see nature as a living, interconnected family, with mutual respect at its core. They believe that treating the earth and its creatures with care ensures balance and survival for all.
This philosophy of respect and reciprocity is the heart of the migration, inspiring a vision where humans and wildlife can thrive together.
