Travel back in time as you witness one of the most significant archaeological finds of the 20th century—the Terracotta Warriors—newly reimagined with over 110 recent discoveries making their North American debut. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first warrior pit discovery in the 1970s, the Bowers Museum proudly presents World of the Terracotta Warriors: New Archaeological Discoveries in Shaanxi in the 21st Century, an unparalleled exhibition that spans from the ancient walled city of Shimao (2300 BCE) to the legendary imperial forces of Qin Shi Huang (210 BCE).

On this captivating day trip, we begin with a visit to the picturesque San Juan Capistrano, a town cherished for its Spanish heritage and relaxed coastal vibe. Enjoy lunch on your own—whether you opt for a historic local café or sample an eclectic mix of flavors at the brand-new Rodeo at River Dr. Food Hall, your taste buds are sure to be delighted. Afterwards, you may choose to explore the local shops, visit the Mission San Juan Capistrano, known as the “Jewel of the California Missions,” or stroll over to the charming Amtrak railroad station for a snapshot of Southern California history.

From there, we venture to Santa Ana, where you'll experience a docent-led tour of the groundbreaking Terracotta Warriors exhibit at the Bowers Museum. Gain exclusive insights into never-before-seen discoveries from royal tombs spanning thousands of years, marvel at the life-size terracotta soldiers and horses, intricately crafted half-size chariots, and precious bronze, jade, and gold artifacts. Uncover the political and artistic triumphs that shaped China’s ancient dynasties—from the early walled cities and advanced cultures of the Shang and Zhou eras to the monumental forces of the Qin dynasty.

Experience the laid-back coastal beauty of San Juan Capistrano and the awe-inspiring wonders of ancient China in one unforgettable trip. Don’t miss this rare chance to encounter the relics that transformed our global understanding of history. Join us for a day that truly spans millennia!
