Priority Waitlist: Lucas Museum of Narrative Art

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art celebrates the power of visual storytelling. Founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the museum explores how images move us and shape our collective memory. The extraordinary 11-acre campus is made up of trees and landscaped gardens that surround a 300,000-square-foot building. Inside, the five-story museum offers 100,000 square feet of galleries exploring timeless themes—family, love, work, play, fantasy, and more.

George Lucas’s lifelong passion for collecting began when he bought his first artwork in college: an illustration of Alley Oop, the time-traveling caveman. Together, Lucas and Hobson have built and supported a collection that ranges from illustrators such as Norman Rockwell, Jessie Willcox Smith, Maxfield Parrish, and N. C. Wyeth to comic artists like Winsor McCay, Frank Frazetta, George Herriman, Jack Kirby, and Robert Crumb. The collection also embraces modern and contemporary artists, including Frida Kahlo, Jacob Lawrence, Charles White, Robert Colescott, and muralists such as Judith F. Baca and Diego Rivera.

In addition to its art collection, the museum houses extensive film archives, including the complete Lucas Archives (1971–2012)—the original Lucasfilm materials retained by George Lucas after the company’s sale—reflecting its dedication to storytelling in every medium. The Lucas Archives are home to an unparalleled collection of film props, costumes, artwork, and artifacts from Lucasfilm productions. Highlights include materials from the first six Star Wars  films, the first four Indiana Jones  adventures, and additional more.

In addition to its galleries, the five-story building features two state-of-the-art cinematic theaters. Visitors can enjoy a café and a rooftop restaurant with sweeping views of the city. Retail spaces offer signature merchandise inspired by works in the museum. Throughout the building, flexible spaces support public programs, learning opportunities, and community engagement. Together, these spaces create an experience that moves seamlessly from curiosity to discovery, conversation, and beyond.
