Come along and experience the joy of the annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) festival in Hollywood. This jubliant Mexican holiday is a celebration of life honoring friends and family members who have passed on with vibrant art, elaborate ofrendas (altars), music, dance, and costumes. It is an ancient and enduring ritual when the living commune with the deada mystical night when the veil is lifted between their two realms and they may share a day together. This spirited event is held at the iconic Hollywood Forever Cemetery, one of the world's most historic places and the final resting place of hundreds of Hollywood legends including Judy Garland, Rudolph Valentino, Mickey Rooney, Douglas Fairbanks, and many more.
The festival features artists, performers, live entertainment, food and craft vendors, a special Day of the Dead art exhibition in the Hollywood Forever Cathedral Mausoleum, and a procession of Aztec ritual dancers in full regalia offering blessings as they parade throughout the grounds. Witness this ancient tradition in an authentic venue that allows festivalgoers to embrace creativity in their celebrations, from incredible costumes and face paint worn by performers and attendees alike to over 100 meticulously individually crafted altars and spiritual shrines created by the community in remembrance of ancestors and loved ones.
Your excursion also includes a visit to L.A.'s famous Farmers Market and The Grove shopping complex for an early dinner on your own. Full of numerous delicious dining options, this historic destination invites you to explore at your own pace, sampling from dozens of food stalls and eateries offering everything from timeless comfort food to international favorites, all within a setting rich with character and charm.
