Day 1
Our journey into the golden age of travel begins as we head toward the iconic Queen Mary in Long Beach. Our first stop is at the vibrant Shoreline Village where you'll enjoy an included lunch at the popular Bubba Gump restaurant. Enjoy a tasty meal while soaking in the coastal atmosphere. This will be the perfect chance to mingle with your fellow guests and start learning about the adventures ahead. After lunch, we'll visit the Aquarium of the Pacific where you'll explore vibrant exhibits filled with marine life from the Pacific Ocean. From sea otters to majestic sea turtles, there's plenty to see and discover in this world-class aquarium. In the late afternoon, we'll board the legendary Queen Mary and settle into your spacious stateroom aboard this historic ocean liner. The café offers a relaxing atmosphere with views of the ship's stunning Art Deco details, setting the perfect tone for your day. After breakfast, join your expert guide for the highly anticipated Glory Days tour. This guided walking tour takes you deep into the history of the Queen Mary, uncovering the ship's fascinating past. From its glamorous transatlantic crossings to its wartime service, you'll learn about the ship's transformation from a luxury liner to a naval troop carrier. Hear captivating stories and see hidden corners of the ship that have remained largely unchanged since its heyday.
This afternoon, join your Tour Manager as she leads you and your fellow travelers to the massive engine room, where the immense power of the Queen Mary once surged through its massive turbines. Standing in this enormous space, you'll get a true sense of the engineering marvel that propelled this grand vessel across the Atlantic. The tour offers incredible insights into the ship's operational history, and the engine room is a true highlight of the day, along with the Winston Churchill exhibit showcasing his leadership, historic voyages, and strategic role in the Allied victory. Located near the engine room, it features artifacts, multimedia displays, and insights into the Queen Mary's wartime transformation. This evening, dress up if you'd like and enjoy a plated dinner at the elegant Chelsea's Chowder House, one of Queen Mary's finest dining venues. This elegant restaurant evokes the grandeur of a bygone era, serving up delicious seafood and classic dishes in a beautifully restored atmosphere. Savor every bite as you take in the rich history of the ship surrounding you.
Day 3
Start your final day with a delicious breakfast at the Promenade Café, included with your tour. Enjoy a variety of fresh breakfast options in the charming surroundings of Queen Mary, fueling up for an exciting day of exploration ahead. After breakfast, we motor to the Catalina Express terminal and board a large catamaran for a one-hour cruise to Avalon, the picturesque main village on Catalina Island. The ride offers stunning views of the coastline, setting the stage for the scenic beauty of Catalina Island. Upon arrival you'll gather at the Tour Plaza and board a tram for a guided Avalon Scenic Tour that will take you through this charming island town and surrounding hillsides, offering breathtaking views of the coast and insight into the history and culture of Avalon. You'll discover why Catalina Island is such a beloved getaway, with its relaxed atmosphere and spectacular landscapes, and why celebrities flocked to this island getaway during the Golden Age of Travel. After the tour, you'll have free time to explore Avalon at your own pace. Stroll through the town's shops, enjoy a meal at one of its seaside restaurants, or simply relax on the beach. This is your chance to immerse yourself in the laid-back charm of Catalina Island before returning to the mainland. In the afternoon, you'll board a vessel for the return trip to the mainland at Dana Point, where the coach will be waiting to transport you back to San Diego.
